How to stop caring so much what people think

You will never stop caring entirely. You can stop letting it run you.

Caring what people think is human and even useful. The problem is when it gets so loud that you shrink, stay silent, and perform a version of yourself you think they want. Here is how to turn the volume down.

Most people are thinking about themselves

The audience you fear is barely watching. Everyone else is busy worrying about how they come across, just like you. That embarrassing thing you replay at night, no one else remembers it.

Trade approval for expression

When your goal is "get them to like me," every interaction becomes a test you can fail. When your goal is "say the true thing kindly," you cannot lose, because you are just being honest.

Do one small brave thing at a time

Confidence to be yourself is built by evidence. Share one real opinion, ask for what you want, wear the thing. Each time the world does not end, the fear loosens.

Start tiny: give a genuine opinion when someone asks "what do you think?" instead of "I do not mind."

Let awkwardness be survivable

You do not need to avoid awkward moments, you need to learn they are not dangerous. The more you let small embarrassments happen and pass, the less power they hold.

Practice being yourself, out loud

It is easier to be authentic when you have done it before. Communication Gym lets you practice speaking up and being real with an AI, so it feels natural when it counts.
